Assistant to Full Professor Position (tenure-track)
The Human and Systems Engineering Track in the School of Design and Human Engineering) at UNIST (Ulsan
National Institute of Science and Technology) invites applicants for tenure-track faculty positions starting from
March 2015 onwards in the areas of:
- Human Machine Interface / Human Robot Interface
- Machine Learning / Data Mining (Experience with brain/physiological signals preferred)
- Cognitive / Affective Robotics
- Experimental Psychology
All candidates should have a Ph.D. in a related field (e.g. Human Factors, Computer Science / Engineering,
Robotics, and Psychology) and a track record of publications in relevant top-tier venues. Candidates for higherlevel
appointments will be expected to have a history of funding acquisition, graduate student supervision and
academic service commensurate with their experience. Responsibilities will include teaching both
undergraduate and graduate courses in English (four courses/year), conducting internationally competitive
research, procuring external research grants, supervising students, and engaging in academic service. A
generous one-year relocation and start-up research package will be provided to successful candidates.
UNIST is a young research-oriented national university located in Ulsan, South Korea with an international
perspective and world-class facilities (http://www.unist.ac.kr/index.sko). The Human and Systems Engineering
Track (http://dhe.unist.ac.kr/) is a rapidly growing group of 11 faculty members and approximately 40 graduate
students. It is currently organized into three research groups: 1) Industrial Safety and Rehabilitation, 2)
Complex Systems Design, and 3) Ergonomic and Creative Product.
Ulsan is a city of 1.1 million people located in the southeast of South Korea. It is known as the industrial center
of Korea including Hyundai-Kia Motors, Hyundai Heavy Industries, and SK Energy. Ulsan has the highest
GDP per capita in Korea and is conveniently connected nationally (via the KTX high-speed train) and
internationally (via nearby Gimhae airport). The wider Ulsan area has a relatively international population and
includes amenities such as world-class international schools (http://www.bifskorea.org/). Ulsan is within easy
reach of Haeundae beach, Geoje island, and other popular resort areas.
