NEWSBRIEFS May 2025 The IEA global community is hard at work organising many exciting events, including conferences and webinars, in 2025. Keep up to date with the latest events and news to ensure that your 2025 is filled with all things HFE. In this edition, the ‘Announcements’ section includes updates on the 2024 Triennial congress proceedings publications, gatherings and meetings of the IEA council, new ILO initiatives and reminders concerning awards, social media posts and phishing awareness. The “Upcoming Events” section includes information on several exciting HFE events taking place in 2025. In the Spotlight on IEA Technical Committees feature, we showcase the Visual Ergonomics Technical Committee and the important work that they are doing to apply HFE to the transport sector. As always, we appreciate the ongoing support and commitment of the global IEA community to share updates that will be of interest to our community. Please continue to share news and updates with us newsbriefs@iea.cc . ANNOUNCEMENTS Important notice There has been another phishing attack using the IEA President's name (but not the correct email address). We would ask you to carefully check that the correct email address is being used and to delete the email if it is incorrect. If there is any doubt, please feel free to contact us directly using the official email addresses available on the website. IEA2024 proceedings getting close to publication We are aware that authors of chapters in the IEA2024 book volumes are impatient for the publication announcement. To this end, IEA2024 Proceedings Editor Prof. Yong-Ku Kong recently stated that "the remaining step involves the final review of the manuscripts by Springer's editorial office, after which the publication process will proceed.... It is somewhat difficult to predict exactly when the proceedings will be published. However, according to the publisher, it is cautiously estimated that the process may take approximately two months." Thus, we expect publication of the proceedings by July 2025. Second virtual IEA Council Gathering with Sustaining Member participation: 23 June 2025 Following the success of the inaugural virtual IEA Council gathering in February 2025, to continue to support exchange opportunities amongst IEA Council members between IEA Council meetings, a second council gathering will take place on Monday June 23rd. IEA Sustaining Members are also invited to this 90-minute virtual gathering with two times available: 07h00 and 16h00 UTC. Updates from IEA will be followed by focussed discussions on a topic relevant to IEA Member Societies. Invitation links have been sent by email to IEA Council Members and IEA Sustaining Members. 2025 IEA Council meeting in-person in Beijing China: 28-29 October We very much hope that all IEA Member Societies will attend this Council meeting in person. The Council meeting will be immediately followed by the "2025 International Conference on Human Factors Engineering & Interaction with AI Systems (HFE&AI 2025)" in Beijing 30 October to 1 November. Council members are encouraged to stay for that additional event. The International Conference host (Tsinghua University), jointly with the council meeting host (Chinese Ergonomics Society), have generously secured financial support in collaboration with other relevant organizations to cover the cost of accommodations for Council members attending in person. Details will be communicated to Council members. ILO Convention core writing group Thank you for the overwhelming response to our request for nominations to the core writing group to develop the background report for a possible new ILO convention that will include ergonomics and human factors. The core writing team consists of Carisa Harris (HFES, and the chair), Wendy Macdonald (HFESA), Shamsul Bahri (HFEM), Fu Guo (CES), Esa-Pekka Takala (NES), and Chris Kelly (CIEHF). Their work started on 20 May 2025 with a tight deadline of 31 October 2025. We also have a large contingent of people who have kindly made themselves available. It is highly likely that these people will be asked to review and comment on the drafts produced by the core writing team. The IEA would like to thank everyone for their willingness to assist. ILO Occupational Safety and Health Foresight journey The ILO would like to get input on their OSH Foresight journey. You are therefore warmly invited to take part in their first Delphi Questionnaire and help us extend its reach across your network. The survey is accessible to external contributors via this public link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9C57VYV Please share it within your network—especially with individuals who can offer key insights from different geographical, economic, social, environmental, and political perspectives. Diverse inputs are essential to shaping an inclusive and forward-looking vision for occupational safety and health. This first round is aimed at surfacing key signals of change. A second round will follow to prioritise these findings and guide the expert panel discussions on future OSH drivers. My little story of ergonomic crossroads of three parallel roads, 11 June 2025, 16h00 UTC This online webinar aims to explore how the approaches of the two Technical Committees, EWAT (Ergonomic Work Analysis and Training) and G&W (Gender and Work) — can be conceptually and methodologically integrated. Prof. C. Chatigny (UQÀM, Canada – Québec) will present her approach and contributions, based on over 20 years of intervention-based research and teaching in occupational health. She will propose perspectives to further the reflection on the intersection of the EWAT and G&W approaches.
